Ski Touring & Winter
Ski touring means climbing on skis fitted with skins and skiing down, usually away from groomed pistes. This section also takes in snowshoeing and winter mountain travel, with touring skis, bindings, boots and skins, avalanche safety equipment, goggles, helmets and snowshoes. Skis, bindings and boots have to work together, so check compatibility before buying any one of them. Each person in a touring group should carry a transceiver, probe and shovel, and know how to use them, which takes training and regular practice.
