K2 is an American ski and snowboard brand founded in 1962 by brothers Bill and Don Kirschner on Vashon Island, Washington, where it made skis using fibreglass. The name refers to the mountain K2 and to the two Kirschner brothers. The brand belongs to K2 Sports, LLC, a subsidiary of Elevate Outdoor Collective based in Bellevue, Washington.
For ski touring, its range includes the Wayback touring skis with matching climbing skins and touring ski boots, alongside freeride, all-mountain and powder skis, ski helmets, poles and snowboard equipment. K2 moved its ski manufacturing from Vashon Island to Guangdong, China, in 2001.
