Kong is an Italian manufacturer of climbing and safety equipment whose history goes back to 1830, when Giuseppe Bonaiti started a workshop at the foot of the Alps. The Bonaiti company took the name Kong in 1977. Kong S.p.A. has its head office and factory in Monte Marenzo, in the province of Lecco.
For climbing and mountaineering it makes carabiners and quickdraws, harnesses, helmets and belay and abseil devices, plus a via ferrata set and a winter line of ice axes, crampons, trekking poles, avalanche probes and shovels. It also sells ropes and makes equipment for work at height and rescue. According to the company, the entire production cycle, from design to packaging, takes place at its Monte Marenzo factory.
