Switzerland · Founded 1862
Mammut is a Swiss mountain sports brand that began in 1862, when Kaspar Tanner founded a rope-making business in the village of Dintikon. It first made ropes mainly for agriculture, and its focus shifted to mountain sports from the 1950s onwards. The company, Mammut Sports Group AG, is based in the canton of Aargau.
Its range covers hiking, mountaineering and trail running footwear, waterproof shells, insulated jackets, fleece midlayers, trekking trousers, backpacks, sleeping bags and mats, along with climbing ropes, harnesses, helmets, carabiners and belay devices, and avalanche equipment including Barryvox transceivers, probes, shovels and airbag packs. Mammut has been a member of the Fair Wear Foundation since 2008.
