Brand
Salewa
Italy · Founded 1935
Salewa was founded in Munich in 1935 by Josef Liebhart; its name combines the German words for saddler, leather and wares. Heiner Oberrauch's Oberalp Group acquired the brand in 1990 and moved it to Bolzano in South Tyrol, Italy, where it is headquartered.
Its range covers hiking and mountaineering boots, mountain clothing, trekking and mountaineering backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and mats, trekking poles, and climbing gear such as helmets, harnesses, belay devices, carabiners, ropes, via ferrata sets, crampons and ice axes, plus avalanche probes and shovels. Since 2022 Oberalp has owned the Droker shoe factory in Sebeș, Romania, which makes Salewa's Mountain Trainer trekking shoes.
