United States · Founded 1989
Black Diamond Equipment is an American maker of climbing, skiing and mountain equipment. It was founded in 1989, when former employees of Chouinard Equipment bought that company's assets, and moved to the Salt Lake City area in 1991. Its head office is in Salt Lake City, with a European office in Innsbruck, and it is owned by Clarus Corporation.
The range covers climbing shoes, harnesses, helmets, ropes, belay devices, carabiners, quickdraws, chalk, ice axes and crampons; trekking and running poles, headlamps, tents, hiking packs and running vests; touring skis, skins, avalanche transceivers, probes and shovels; and outdoor clothing. Its product pages give Austria as the country of origin of its Helio Carbon skis.
