How we earn money

outdoordirectory.eu is free to use and carries no advertising. We earn money from affiliate links: if you follow a buy link to a shop and buy something, the shop may pay us a small commission.

What this never changes

• Your price. The commission comes out of the shop's margin. You pay the same as if you had gone to the shop directly.
• Which brands we list. Every relevant brand is listed, whether or not it pays commission. Many brands in the directory earn us nothing.
• The order of brands. Lists are alphabetical, or sorted by the filters you choose. There are no paid placements.
• What we say about a brand. Profiles describe brands from public sources. Commission plays no part in them.

How the buy button chooses a shop

Every buy link goes first to an address on our own site (outdoordirectory.eu/go/…). From there we send you on to a shop, choosing in this order:

1. the brand's own shop, if we have a partner link for your market;
2. the brand's own shop, if we have a partner link that works in every market;
3. a shop in your market that sells the brand and with which we have a partner link;
4. a European shop that sells the brand and delivers across Europe, if we have a partner link with it;
5. otherwise, the brand's own website, without any tracking. In that case we say so next to the button.

We work out your market from the country your connection comes from. Your browser's language is not used for this, and you can choose another market under the button. We never send you to a shop that doesn't sell the brand you are looking at.

Product lists

Product-type and brand pages show a selection of products, made automatically from shops' catalogues: products in stock in your market, across brands and price ranges. It is not a ranking. They come either from partner shops, whose links are affiliate links, or from brands' own shops, whose links earn us nothing until the brand's programme has approved us. The note above each list says which, and only affiliate links are marked as sponsored. Product links that are affiliate links go through the same address on our site first.

Cookies set by shops and networks

outdoordirectory.eu sets no cookies. Some of our links go through Awin, an affiliate network that credits a purchase to us with a cookie in your browser. Before such a link we show a short page of our own that asks whether Awin may set that cookie. If you agree, the link goes through Awin; if not, it goes straight to the shop and Awin is not involved. Your answer counts for that one click and is not stored. Shops may also set their own cookies on their own sites, under their own privacy policies.

Marking

Affiliate links are marked as sponsored in the page code (rel="sponsored"); links that earn us nothing are not. Every page with buy links carries a short note pointing here.
