Carabiners & quickdraws
Carabiners and quickdraws connect you, the rope and your protection. Locking carabiners are used for belaying, anchors and abseiling, and pear-shaped HMS lockers take a Munter hitch. Quickdraws join two non-locking carabiners with a sewn sling: wire gates are lighter and less prone to fluttering open; solid gates often have a snag-free keylock nose. Longer quickdraws reduce rope drag on wandering routes. Check the strength ratings marked on the spine.
