Ropes
Dynamic climbing ropes stretch to absorb a fall; static ropes stretch very little and are not for lead climbing. Dynamic ropes are rated single, half or twin, and a single rope is the usual choice for sport and indoor climbing. Diameter trades durability against weight. For lowering off, the rope must be at least twice the route length, and a dry treatment reduces water uptake on snow and ice.
