Grivel
Italy · Founded 1818
Grivel is an Italian maker of mountaineering and climbing equipment that began as a blacksmith's workshop in Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc, in 1818. The company, Grivel srl, has its registered offices in Verrayes in the Aosta Valley and was bought by Gioachino Gobbi and his family in 1982.
Its range covers crampons and ice axes, ice screws, carabiners and quickdraws, belay devices, harnesses, climbing helmets, mountaineering packs, and poles for trekking, ski touring and trail running. For its ice axes and crampons, Grivel uses a nickel-chrome-molybdenum steel originally developed for the aviation industry.
