Petzl

France · Founded 1975

Petzl is a French maker of climbing, caving and work-at-height equipment and headlamps, based in Crolles near Grenoble. It grew out of the work of caver Fernand Petzl, who began making rope ascenders and other caving equipment in the late 1960s; the company was incorporated in 1975, when it moved to Crolles. The Petzl family are its shareholders.

For climbing and mountaineering it makes harnesses, ropes, helmets, carabiners and quickdraws, belay devices, crampons and ice axes, via ferrata lanyards and chalk bags, alongside headlamps for camping, hiking and trail running. Production is split between sites in Crolles, Eybens and Rotherens in France and a factory in Rawang, Malaysia.
